This full moon, which is opposite the Sun in Leo, culminates in the sign of Aquarius on August 19th at 11:25 am pacific time, making the night of August 18th the best night to see it at its fullest.
The sign of Aquarius is ruled by Saturn. Also joining the moon in Aquarius is a strong retrograde Saturn, which means there is a strong Saturnian influence on the Moon these next few days. Saturn with Moon makes us feel more heaviness on the mind, and perhaps feelings of sadness and hopelessness. It also is a combination for ‘alone time’ whether that is desired or undesired, making it a good combination for meditation. The energy is slower, heavier these next days so ensure the mind doesn’t get too low utilizing the tools you have available to you.
Across from this Moon is a retrograde Mercury moving between the fragile gandanta point between Cancer and Leo. While retrograde Mercury gets a lot of hype, really the most predominant effect is that it can make our mental energy more inward and obsessive. Obsessive is not necessarily negative, especially if we are focused on something Mercury in nature- editing, rewriting, organizing. But the Saturn conjunction mixed with the obsessiveness of the retrograde Mercury (also with Sun and Venus in Leo!) makes for a few days of both busy restlessness and heavier mental energy.
Energizing techniques and connecting with others are good natural remedies over these next few days, in addition to whatever mantras you may practice.
As per usual Mercury retrograde advice, ensure to leave extra time for travel and it’s advised not to sign any contracts until Mercury goes direct on August 28th.
This upcoming moon is heralded as a Supermoon, which occurs a few times a year. A Supermoon is the closest the moon gets to the earth, which makes it appear bigger. Since the Moon represents our mind, it would make sense that a Supermoon may have more influence on our mental state. As the moon affects the tides, it is also possible that the Supermoon affects the waters of the world and in our body more, making a bit more tumultuous of a moon.
Also, for us this is the real start of ‘Leo Season.’ In the sidereal zodiac, which is what Vedic Astrology uses, the Sun has moved into Leo on August 16th where Leo season will reign for the next month. As this is one of those astrological events discussed in pop culture, I thought it was worth a mention, and that the dates will change according to what zodiac one uses.
