In this life, we get to choose what our goals and priorities are. When we are in the state of finding clarity in these areas and we are on our best path, the details to getting where we want to be and how to get there become crystal clear.
It is in these details of life that we find our greatest passions, lessons and the gems (or aha’s) that light up our path and bring us the most moving experiences and emotions we have ever known. I revel in the details that have brought me to my greatest goals. The details to me are where all the juice is and as a visual person, the level of attention to detail is something that makes the best design, be it our homes, vehicles, furniture, clothing, jewelry or decor. Charles Eames said, “The details are not just the details. They make the design”. If you can sit in an Eames chair, you can feel into your bones the fine detail that went into this iconic chair. When he described his chairs he said, “we have not attempted to solve the problem of how people should sit. Instead, we accepted the way people do sit and operated within that framework”.
I have always been a huge fan of design that is both practical to the user and brings them joy. If something does not work, it does not matter to me that it is only nice to look at. The detail of accepting the way people sit and finding ways to support that, made Eames chair a timeless classic because not only is it beautiful, but also very comfortable.
So my question to you is, what are your goals and what are the details that are getting you to your goals? What are the details that delight you to the core?
The fun part is that even though the details may be the smallest and finest things, they can lead to the great big visions that may even challenge or scare us. I’d like to share with you a goal of mine. I want to purchase my own home. The thought of this goal delights me so much, as I have only rented homes and always wished that I could so fully do the work to make my personal space my own and know that all of the work invested helps to improve my home and my family. This goal scares me a little as well because of the level of commitment, the time and the money invested and I know that it is a good goal if it scares me even if just a little, because change happens when we stand at the edge of our fear and still proceed. Next comes the fun part. The details.
To get me to this goal, I focus inside to find all the fine things that make up this vision, the details that will bring me to my goal. It is here that I paint the picture in my mind with every sense (color, taste, smell, touch, sight) and focus on each detail from small to big that will make this my masterpiece. The details I can see are through the eyes of a bee flying into the space and witnessing each detail as if each were a flower with the finest nectar. I fly from the road to a gate, followed by a long driveway, and as I approach the house, I can smell the scent of lavender, lilac, rosemary and jasmine. I reach the porch of a white house with a red door, the entry is inviting and the door opens as I fly in. I buzz through to a wide open entry with a golden buddha, artwork and plants. There is a table at the entry and I see myself in the mirror. To the left I smell a delicious pot of soup cooking from an open and airy kitchen, and see a table with purple flowers set for a delicious family meal. From here, I fly down a hallway to the master bedroom. I land on the bed that has the softest pink plush throw and as I snuggle into this comfort, I delight in the ambient soft lighting. I then hear the sounds of children laughing from their rooms filled with love. The nectar is so sweet throughout the spaces, as I fly back out through the back door to a gorgeous garden, pool and view of grapes growing. The feelings that arise through this flight as a bee, fill me with excitement of what will surely come.
The details of our life are like a fine fabric, each item in our home space if we look closely is like a colorful thread that we have brought into our life with the intention to create the most beautiful tapestry. The tapestry may change through time to reflect the most current beauty in our life, but is most certainly a reflection of who we are. The tapestry of our journey. Each moment that is created through attracting the finest details with clarity, brings us to our highest joys, the memories that we create by living life on purpose, fulfilled, completely enjoying the process and who we became as we touch the gorgeous tapestry we have created.
Just for you to enjoy:
“My life has been a tapestry of rich and royal hue
An everlasting vision of the ever-changing view
A wondrous woven magic in bits of blue and gold
A tapestry to feel and see, impossible to hold” – Carole King
