This full moon culminates at 10:21pm on September 1st PDT in the sign of Aquarius and the lunar house of Satabisha. While all the nakshatras (lunar houses) have mythology attached to them, Satabisha is a particularly interesting story. Satabisha means ‘a hundred physicians’ or ‘a hundred medicines’ making this a very healing Full Moon. Having this lunar house prominent in your birth chart is a mark of a healer, doctor, shaman, particularly those related to alternative healing methods. The name ‘a hundred physicians’ can also indicate diseases that are difficult to understand or diagnose, and the person may have to go though innumerable healing methods. Typically, this process is what connects the person with their own healing ability- their process of self healing makes them skilled to help others.
This is also a lunar house of loss or renunciation. In the mythology this nakshatra connects to having to give up someone or something. This full moon asks us to look at ourselves and examine what may not be helpful for us, and if its time to heal and let go. It is also an idea time for self healing and self care of any kind, so be sure to take good care of yourself this moon cycle.
The day after the full moon starts the waning dark moon cycle. This particular one is called Pitri Paksha in the Vedic calendar, the 15 days of the ancestors. It is very common to do some sort of offerings for those who have passed during this time. This can be very involved and ritualistic, or as simple as a picture or remembering those who have left the body. I think this is a very important and lost practice in most of the western world, and encourage you all to pay respect to your ancestors in some form over these next 15 days.
Love and Blessings,
