This Full Moon culminates on August 3rd at 8:58 am Pacific Time (9:28 pm IST) in the sign of Capricorn and in the Nakshatra (lunar house) of Sravana. Since the full moon finishes on the 3rd after sunrise, the entirely of Monday August 3rd is considered the full moon, though actually moon will be at its fullest visibility in the sky Sunday night in the US.
This full moon marks the last of five Shiva Pujas in the Vedic Month of Sravana. To have it fall on a Monday and the full moon is considered particularly auspicious. If you can perform or attend a Shiva puja for this I highly recommend it!
The full moon generally tends to bring us outward and have a better connection with society, but this one is with Saturn and in Saturn’s sign. This can make us feel internal but can also be a recipe for depression. We may feel sadness in these next few days, which can serve as a reminder to look inward and sit with rather than act upon the momental passings of the mind. Moon with Saturn can also make us focus on the needs of others, which can be beneficial, but we do want to make sure we are focusing on ourselves and our routines during this period. Saturn loves and rewards discipline.
Venus has left its own sign of Taurus and has moved into Gemini until September 1st. As Rahu is also in Gemini, the conjunction of Rahu and Venus and how it pertains to relationships becomes important. Rahu veils all it touches, and Venus is our planet of love. Rahu with Venus can create all sorts of distortions and openness in our romantic relationships, and even more so in Gemini, which tends to have a generally diversified energy. Because of this it is important to tend to our relationships more this month, and to look critically at any unconventional ideas that may spring up. Rahu tends to make us act impulsively as well, without considering long term consequences. While Jupiter’s aspect often brings dharma and wisdom into situations, it may not be enough to quell impulsive instincts, especially because Jupiter interacting with Venus can make us self-indulgent. It’s an ideal month to stay disciplined and stay out of trouble!
In some parts of India this full moon is also celebrated as Raksha Bandhan or Rakhi. This is a very sweet celebration where sisters will tie threads onto the wrists of their brothers. It is said to deepen the sibling bond and bless the brother with long life, and the sister with protection.
Love and Blessings,
