Spread the love

This New Moon Eclipse occurs in the last degrees of Scorpio in the lunar house of Jyestha.  The New Moon starts on December 13th at 11:14 am PST and culminates on December 14th at 8:16 am PST.

While New Moon Eclipses are typically vulnerable times, this is a particularly sensitive one.  This eclipse occurs in the last degrees of Scorpio, an even more transitional point of an already transitional sign.  People with important placements in the end of Scorpio will tend to feel this the most.  The eclipse path passes through South America and the western part of South Africa, so people in those places will feel more of the effect as well.

In addition, a Solar eclipse can only occur on a New Moon, and when the moon is invisible like this it loses strength.  The Moon is debilitated in the sign of Scorpio, which gives it a more weakened quality.  The moon is the planet connected with our mind and emotions, and our sense of stability.  Scorpio is the sign of transformation and change, which makes the security seeking moon feel even more uncomfortable here.

All of this speaks to feeling particularly insecure or unstable in the few days before and the period following the Eclipse, which can be a few days up to several months!   Because of the instability that both New Moons and Eclipses tend to bring, it is advised to do spiritual practice and fasting during these windows.  For both events is it also advised not to start anything new right around them.  As the mind can tend to be unstable at the moment, avoid taking big decisions and don’t take passing thoughts too seriously.  On the other hand Eclipses can often bring about profound karmic unknotting, and it is likely that this one in Scorpio will require us to let go and transform.  If we can accept and not resist these shifts we can most always use them for growth.  It is only when we resist change and try to control it that the lower nature of Scorpio gains strength to give us trouble and keep us stuck.

We are in the midst of a strong period of change, it is visible all over the world as well as in the microcosm of our personal realities.  The Saturn Jupiter conjunction is in large part responsible for this.  We got a taste of this conjunction in March to June of 2020, and we are now moving into the height of it.  Saturn and Jupiter will be in exact degrees on December 21st, the Winter Solstice, and in a very close conjunction from December 14-30.  However, they will be conjunct in the same sign, and therefore strongly interacting, for most of 2021, except for a brief period from April- June when Jupiter moves into Aquarius before retrograding back to Capricorn.

The Winter Solstice begins the 6 month period of Uttarayana, the northern movement of the Sun. This period, particularly the first 3 months, is a period of growth and receptivity.  It is the period of the Gods and typically carries auspiciousness with it, as the days slowly become longer.

The Conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter is sometimes called the Great Conjunction because it occurs only every 20 years, and last occurred in sidereal Capricorn 60 years ago.  While this conjunction can be very activating for the area of life (represented by the house)  that it affects in our charts, this round of the conjunction brings Saturn to a higher and imbalanced strength.  Jupiter is the planet that represents the teacher, higher wisdom, expansiveness and blessings, while Saturn represents delays, pressures, obstacles and hard work.  Saturn is strong in his own sign of Capricorn, while Jupiter is in his fall here.  This means that the expansive energy of Jupiter will not be able to manifest in the same way, and instead the hard life lessons and the hard work principle of Saturn will prevail.

Expect situations to not flow as easily over these next few months, and instead require a lot of perseverance and discipline.  This is only a problem if we are resistant to it, and yet Saturn also represents success over time if we are willing to work hard and apply our diligent efforts.

All of these line ups suggest some intense times over the next few months, and I advise you to ride the waves with as much detachment and grace as possible.  If you would like more personalized guidance do be in touch for a reading.

Mrinmoyee is in a long term love affair with Mother India, the land of her spiritual birth. She has lived primarily in India for the last 2 decades, and while she appreciates most all aspects of the culture, Vedic Astrology, Meditation, and Devotional pactices have been her primary focus.

Having grown up on the East coast of the United States, she deeply sees the need for the Vedic sciences in the modern Western life. She lived for 10 years in an Indian Buddhist spiritual community in North India where meditation and seva (service) were the foundations of her practice. Here she experienced the traditional teachings passed down through a lineage that is customary in India. As her interest in Vedic Astrology grew it took her to different regions and teachers of India and the US. She has studied Vedic Astrology for the last 10 years, and has given hundreds of readings to people all over the world in the last 5 years.

She offers introductory workshops on Vedic Astrology, and retreats in India. But the main focus of her work is personalized birth chart consultations. She has studied with both traditional and modern teachers, and gives a traditional analysis of the chart combined with a modern, applicable interpretation. While Vedic Astrology is Hindu in its origins, a person need not be following that path to benefit from her readings. Advice on career, relationships, finances, ideal living locations, and spirituality are just some of the areas of life that can be covered in a session.
