In this article I will discuss

  • New Moon in Aries
  • Akshaya Tritiya ‘the never diminishing day’
  • Mercury going out of debilitation
  • Mars changing signs and no longer afflicting Jupiter

This new moon culminates on April 23rd at 7:55 am IST (April 22nd 7:25 pm PST) in the sign of Aries and the lunar house of Ashwini. The Sun is very powerful in Aries, its sign of exaltation, where the leadership and authority of the Sun is supported by the ambitious dynamism of the Mars ruled sign of Aries.

Even amidst the world’s distress, perhaps you can see this recent shift into strength in your own life. Globally there was a palpable change in mid-April where people’s feelings of helplessness and loss of power (Sun in Pisces) turned to assertive action (like protests against stay at home orders) albeit in a controversial and potentially aggressive way!

The moon being new and in Aries means that the emotional discomfort and agitation will continue, so now is a great time to use all your tools.  The lunar house of Ashwini represents healing on a deep level, and feeling into situations with intuition and not just logic.

As usual, avoid starting anything important in the 24 hours before the new moon and for ideally that much time after.  So the next couple days are a good time to lay low.

Luckily on April 25th and 26th we get a very favorable timing called Akshaya Tritiya, the ‘indestructable 3rd day’ of the waxing moon cycle. The lunar timing will fall on April 25th in the US and April 26th in Europe and Asia. The day astrologically occurs once a year when the Sun and the Moon are both in their places of exaltation, Aries and Taurus respectively.

It is said that anything that is started on this day is successful and grows.  Since it indicates lasting success, it is an ideal day to work on or announce something you would like to expand and grow in your world.  In India people buy gold on this day to expand wealth (though not so much this year!). We can also use this day to expand our spiritual practice, good habits, good deeds, reputation, etc.  It is one of the few days of the year that does not need an exact timing (muhurta), as the whole day is considered positive. I will send out an announcement that day, as it is a timing not to be missed.

Mercury goes into Aries on April 25th as well.  Though this fiery sign of Mars is definitely not the most comfortable place for Mercury, at least the challenges processing information that occur in Pisces will complete.  Pisces is a confusing place for Mercury, the planet of our intellect, as the watery intuitive nature of the sign does not support the rational and critical thinking of Mercury.  This transit could give us some much needed clarity on the intellectual level.

On May 4th Mars moves into Aquarius.  Though not a better placement for Mars, this move will transit him away from Saturn and Jupiter in Capricorn, creating less affliction to Jupiter, our planet of blessings and higher wisdom.  Many astrologers are marking May 4th as a turning point for the beginning of the betterment of our global situation.

And finally, a correction from last time.  Jupiter is in the sign of Capricorn conjunct Saturn until the end of June.  He retrogrades back into Sagittarius for a few months, then returns to Capricorn in November 2020 for a year (not November 2021!)

Hang in there all! These times have been very challenging but also rich with teachings if we allow it to be such.

Do be in touch if I can help in any way.

Love and Blessings,

Mrinmoyee is in a long term love affair with Mother India, the land of her spiritual birth. She has lived primarily in India for the last 2 decades, and while she appreciates most all aspects of the culture, Vedic Astrology, Meditation, and Devotional pactices have been her primary focus.

Having grown up on the East coast of the United States, she deeply sees the need for the Vedic sciences in the modern Western life. She lived for 10 years in an Indian Buddhist spiritual community in North India where meditation and seva (service) were the foundations of her practice. Here she experienced the traditional teachings passed down through a lineage that is customary in India. As her interest in Vedic Astrology grew it took her to different regions and teachers of India and the US. She has studied Vedic Astrology for the last 10 years, and has given hundreds of readings to people all over the world in the last 5 years.

She offers introductory workshops on Vedic Astrology, and retreats in India. But the main focus of her work is personalized birth chart consultations. She has studied with both traditional and modern teachers, and gives a traditional analysis of the chart combined with a modern, applicable interpretation. While Vedic Astrology is Hindu in its origins, a person need not be following that path to benefit from her readings. Advice on career, relationships, finances, ideal living locations, and spirituality are just some of the areas of life that can be covered in a session.
